We have a new threat to our beautiful mountain Live and Black Oaks – the Goldspotted Oak Borer. This little menace moves in, bores it’s way into the heart of the tree and starts to dine. Here’s the important message: Please don’t transport firewood up to the mountains. Firewood seems to be the preferred method of transportation for the G.O.B.
According to our Forest Service contact, the G.O.B. traveled up from Mexico to Phoenix and then to the San Diego area. Until the State of California declares it to be a threat, we can only warn as many of you as possible. The effort is to keep it from moving any further in California. If you live in the San Diego area and you’ve recently purchased firewood, chances are it’s infected. Please leave your firewood at home and “Buy where you Burn”. If you need information on mountain firewood providers, let me know.
Duane and I will be out of town celebrating our family Christmas in Northern California. I do wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas. I am looking forward to a happier New Year – knowing that “if it’s to be it’s up to me!!!” Peace be with you!
