Firewood WARNING!   Leave a comment

firewoodSpecial Alert!

We have a new threat to our beautiful mountain Live and Black Oaks – the Goldspotted Oak Borer. This little menace moves in, bores it’s way into the heart of the tree and starts to dine. Here’s the important message: Please don’t transport firewood up to the mountains. Firewood seems to be the preferred method of transportation for the G.O.B.

According to our Forest Service contact, the G.O.B. traveled up from Mexico to Phoenix and then to the San Diego area. Until the State of California declares it to be a threat, we can only warn as many of you as possible. The effort is to keep it from moving any further in California. If you live in the San Diego area and you’ve recently purchased firewood, chances are it’s infected. Please leave your firewood at home and “Buy where you Burn”. If you need information on mountain firewood providers, let me know.

Duane and I will be out of town celebrating our family Christmas in Northern California. I do wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas. I am looking forward to a happier New Year – knowing that “if it’s to be it’s up to me!!!” Peace be with you!

Fire Fee/Tax Protest   Leave a comment

If you are a homeowner living in those areas designated as being in the State Responsibility Area (SRA), you have received or you will receive a bill from the State Board of Equalization for a “Fire Fee”. If you feel that this is an illegal tax as do most of those of us living in the State Responsibility Areas (SRA), I urge you to protest the so-called “fee”. Please read the attached information from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and file your protest. You must pay the fee. The protest is to be filed within 30 days of that payment and to be sent to all three addresses on the attached forms. Please pass this on to your neighbors. If you have questions, let me know – phone or email.
Thomas Jefferson said
“All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent”.

 Please vote on Tuesday!
Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association website recommends the followingRefund-Challenging the Fee and Claiming a Refund
You must pay your bill. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE DUE DATE. You may have fewer than 30 days to pay. If you are late, steep penalties and interest are compounded monthly. Moreover, the fee is a lien on your property, and failure to pay can result in foreclosure.

We at the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association believe this fee is really an illegal tax under Proposition 13. We plan to challenge the constitutionality of this tax in court.

Should we prevail, the court may order refunds. To qualify for a refund you must have paid your bill and filed a “Petition for Redetermination” with the responsible agencies.

For convince, we have posted the form below with the grounds for challenging the fee already filled in. Page 2 contains instructions for completing the form.  http://firetaxprotest.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/petition_for_redetermination_Fillable.pdf

When you pay your fee, we recommend that you write “under protest” on the notation line of your check. Also make a copy of the check so that you can enclose it with your petition for redetermination form, as proof of payment

Although only one address appears at the bottom of the form, state law actually requires that you submit the form to three different addresses.

YOU MUST SUBMIT IT WITHIN 30 DAYS OF THE DATE OF YOUR BILL
to the three addresses below.

Fire Prevention Petitions, P.O.Box 2254, Suisun City, CA 94585
Board of Forestry and Fire Protection, P.O.Box 944246,
Sacramento, CA 942444
Board Of Equalization, P.O. Box 942879, Sacramento, CA 94279

Realtors in WashingtonDC
May 11, 2012

I want to thank Lynn Wilson, Derek Leistra, Cynthia Carley and Kriss Grove for attending the N.A.R. Mid Year Meetings and Realtor Rally.Rim of the World Association of Realtors will be well represented!  If you’ve opened any messages from N.A.R., you know about the Realtor Rally at the Washington Monument on Thursday, May 17 – where over 15,000 Realtors from every state will be standing up for Home Ownership in America – the American Dream!  We’ve been told by our Congressman and others that buyers need to have “more skin in the game”-  meaning 20% or more down payment on a home mortgage.  Realtors know what “skin in the game” really means to a home owner – it’s the school their kids attend, being a part of a neighborhood, a community, improving their home, building equity and all things connected with home ownership.  We know that the Mortgage Interest Deduction is being scrutinized by Congress for reduction or elimination. Next week, every Congressman and Senator in our Nations capitol will be visited by Realtor constituents to let them know that Realtors support the preservation of Home Ownership in America and will vehemently oppose any legislation/regulation that threatens it.  On May 17th – go on line and join your fellow Realtors in standing up for Home Ownership in America!!

Christmas in April Auction Dinner   Leave a comment

From: Carol Banner and Cyndy Davidson, Co-Chairs: Christmas in April Committee to benefit Rebuilding Together.

Christmas in April Auction Dinner

Once again, our Community braved Friday’s snow storm to gather at the Lake Arrowhead Country Club for the annual Christmas in April Auction Dinner benefitting Rebuilding Together.  The Rim of the World Association of Realtors, partnering with the Lake Arrowhead Country Club, helps our Rebuilding Together program fund it’s home rehabilitation projects in our local Communities with the Christmas in April Auction/Dinner. This year, with the help of Auctioneer Extraordinaire, John Wood and the sponsorship of the Lake Arrowhead Country Club, local Realtors were able to raise $20,000 to fund next years Rebuilding Together projects.

The many wonderful auction items were generously donated by merchants and local folks.  John Wood, Cyndy Davidson and Allison Banner made sure the Auction action was lively and moved quickly.  Many, many thanks to all who participated.  Very special thanks to the Lake Arrowhead Country Club for their sponsorship and to the Rebuilding Together Committee for organizing the auctioned items and keeping the books.  Special thanks to the Realtor Christmas In April Committee.  We can’t forget TIPS Printing for all the flyers and the Mountain News for all the wonderful advertising!  Next year will be even better!!!
